GGpoker and PokerstarsGGPoker is a relatively new operator when compared to some of its current rivals. The poker room only launched in 2014 and was initially focused primarily on Asian markets.

GGPoker began to expand globally in 2017 after securing a series of partnerships and deals, and has since grown to become one of the leading online poker sites in the world. Now, the poker room is taking bigger steps to knock PokerStars off the top spot.

GGPoker’s unstoppable growth boils down to a lot of strategic moves that has helped the brand become one of the biggest names in the poker scene in just a few years. One of those moves was signing Daniel Negreanu and Dan Bilzerian as its ambassadors.

Negreanu Shifts From PokerStars To GGPoker

Negreanu was one of PokerStars’ long-time ambassadors. He represented the brand for 12 years before cutting ties with the site in May 2019. The departure caught the poker world by surprise, with several questions raised as to why he decided to part ways with the brand. Just six months later, the Canadian poker pro announced that he’s joining GGPoker as its newest ambassador.

Negreanu’s status in the poker world has helped GGPoker with its brand image and growth. GGPoker has taken some significant steps in the last couple of years and is now one of the main competitors to PokerStars. Negreanu is one of the greatest and most successful poker players of all time.

Negreanu is a Poker Hall of Fame inductee, with multiple titles and over $42 million in live tournament earnings under his name. He has a massive following on social media, 490,000 Twitter followers, and 527,000 YouTube subscribers. GGPoker through Daniel Negreanu is leveraging this massive following to its advantage which is helping the poker room close the gap between it and PokerStars.

Record-Breaking Tournaments

Another factor that has largely contributed to GGPoker’s rapid success are its record-breaking tournaments. Its ongoing partnership with the World Series of Poker (WSOP) in particular has helped catapult the site to greater heights. In 2020, it played host to the international leg of the WSOP Online Bracelet Series which earned the site a Guinness World Record.

GGPoker has managed to maintain the momentum by holding more tournaments with mouth-watering guarantees. Just last month, it ran its own Spring Festival with a massive $150 million guarantee, countering PokerStars’ popular Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP).

The GG Spring Festival was not able to surpass SCOOP, but it exceeded expectations after awarding $175 million in total prize money, just $9 million short of the 2020 SCOOP’s total prize pool.
