The Texas Poker Championship which kicked off on March 10 at the Prime Social poker club in Houston Texas has finally concluded.

The $2,000,000 GTD Main Event closed out the series on Wednesday, with American poker pro James Carroll being crowned the winner.

The Las Vegas resident bested a field of 468 entries in the $5,300 tournament and outclassed Poker Detox CEO Nicholas Howard heads-up to walk away with the title and $455,860 in top prize.

Final Table Results

The Main Event featured multiple flights which kicked off on March 24. Of the 468 total entries, only nine reached the final table. Popular pros Jake Daniels and Ryan Depaulo didn’t make it to the final cut, but both made a deep run, finishing 10th and 19th respectively.

Viet Vo was the first casualty of the final table, finishing in 9th place for $45,590.

Justin Saliba also made it to the final table but his journey to the title was cut short after Jason Daly‘s pocket kings defeated his ace-king. Saliba, a World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet winner, ended his bid in 8th place for $57,620. The final table dwindled to just five players following the eliminations of Jeremy Harvey (7th, $73,750) and Andrew Ostapchenko (6th, $95,350).

Daly was the next player to leave, with his seven-deuce dominated by Howard’s ace-jack. Daly collected $125,350 for finishing 5th. Howard went on to eliminate Jorge Gomez with pocket kings versus ace-ten. Gomez finished 4th for $166,420.

The Poker Detox founder’s knockout streak continued as he sent Benjamin Keiley to the rail in 3rd place for $223,580. But his dominance was disrupted during heads-up play against Carroll. The final hand saw Howard moving all-in from the button holding queen jack. Carroll, who held pocket sixes, called on the button. Howard didn’t improve on the board and settled for second place, earning $303,930 for his efforts.

Another Tournament Title for Carroll

Carroll’s latest victory has pushed his total live earnings to over $5.3 million. He is a popular figure in the US poker scene, having won in multiple major tournament series, including the World Poker Tour (WPT), DeepStack Extravaganza, Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown and Wynn Classic.

His largest score to date came in 2014 when he took down the WPT Bay 101 Shooting Star Main Event in San Jose, California for $1,256,550.
