“schimmelgodx” Wins WSOP Super Circuit Online Main Event For $1.27m

The 2020 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Super Circuit Online Series has finally come to an end. It ran on GGPoker for almost a month, featuring a total of 516 real money poker events, with 18 gold rings up for grabs. Among the biggest winners of the mega online festival was Germany’s “schimmelgodx” who took down the WSOPC Main Event for $1,271,218.

The $1,000 buy-in Main Event attracted nearly 10,000 people throughout the Day 1 starting flights, but only 1,494 players were able to advance to Day 2. Intense action began early on the final day, and the first 30 minutes of play saw more than 600 players being eliminated.

Final Action

After a few hours, there were just 100 players competing, with some popular poker names failing to make the cut, such as three-time WSOP bracelet winner Adrian Mateos, German poker pro Fedor Kruse, and GGPoker’s newest ambassador, former World No. 1 tennis player Boris Becker. They did not leave the table empty handed, as all of them were able to cash for at least $3,200.

When it came down to the final table and the last nine players, things progressed quickly as the first five players exited the game in quick succession. Monaco’s “Gius2020” finished ninth for $70,622, Singapore’s “wy77” finished eighth for $101,356, while Canadian player “MaillouL” earned $145,466 for finishing seventh. Germany’s “CoRoNaTi” and Uruguay’s “tepuseenDF” fell in sixth and fifth place for $208,722 and $299,627 respectively.

Four-handed play lasted almost 30 minutes, before Juan Pardo Dominguez eventually busted in fourth place for $430,022, after his ace was defeated by the flush of “Igutu“. “Igutu” didn’t manage to advance further as he was forced to settle for third place when he lost his queen-jack to king-jack. The eventual winner entered heads-up play against “Biereux“, with the latter ahead in chips.

schimmelgodx” was able to close the gap before finally snatching the lead after winning a huge hand. Shortly after, “Biereux” put all of his remaining chips in the middle with jack-queen, but “schimmelgodx” held jack-four two pair to capture the top prize and the highly-coveted Circuit gold ring. “Biereux” won $885,747 for his runner-up finish.

$134 Million In Total Prize Money Awarded To Winners

The first-ever WSOP Super Circuit Online Series ended up awarding an astonishing $134 million in total prize money, way above its initial advertised guarantee of $100 million. It currently holds the record for the biggest-guaranteed online tournament series in poker history.

The festival was organized to provide players with an alternative platform for poker enjoyment and competition, after several live events were cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
