Tony G Finds Success After Taking Down €25k Triton Short Deck Event

Famous poker personality ‘Tony G’ real name Antanas Guoga emerged victorious in the €25,000 Triton Short Deck event at partypoker LIVE MILLIONS Europe, outlasting a field of 21 entries to take home €237,250 ($264,308). 

The Lithuanian businessman engaged in a thrilling heads-up duel against runner-up Yake Wu, who came so very close to capturing his first major victory this year through a number of improbable run-outs that extended the final battle. 

Wu gave Tony G a tough fight, hitting a full house on the turn against the latter’s flopped trips. In another hand, it appeared like Tony G was headed for victory with pocket jacks, until his Chinese opponent was thrown another lifeline after picking up trips on the river.

Final Table Results

The three other players finishing in the money in the €25,000 Triton Short Deck event included Malaysia’s Choon Ton Siow (5^th place for €61,000), American poker pro Cary Katz (4^th place for €75,500) and Czech entrepreneur and King’s Resort owner Leon Tsoukernik (3^rd place for €104,500).

Some of poker’s biggest personalities in the game made up the final table, with Triton Poker co-founder Paul Phua being the first to walk away empty handed after busting out in 7^th place. China’s Liang Yu also managed to reach the final table but was eliminated on the money bubble, ending his bid in 6^th place. 

Tony G was full of praise for his opponents, particularly complimenting Phua, who’s had a very profitable couple of weeks and Tsoukernik who Tony G thought was a great player who has immense focus. It took eleven levels on the final day before Tony G was able to secure the title.

Tony G Is Back!

Tony G’s win in the €25,000 Triton Short Deck marks his first major live victory since 2017, when he triumphed in a No-Limit Hold’em High Roller event at the Aria High Roller 59 in Las Vegas for $353,280. 

Commenting on his victory, Tony G admitted most of his wins were attributed to him having a big stack. Whenever he has had a big stack, he feels he has a huge chance to win. This was the case when Tony G entered the final table holding a massive chip lead and drew further away from his closest competitor who was Wu as the game played down to the final four. 

When the dust settled, it was Tony G who raised the winner’s trophy, with Wu taking home €163,000 for his second-place finish.
