PokerStars MI Achieves Another Major Success in Inaugural MISCOOP

The inaugural Michigan Spring Championship of Online Poker (MISCOOP), which ran on PokerStars MI turned out to be a record-breaking success! The world’s largest online poker site decided to bring one of its flagship tournament series to Michigan just months after going live in the state, putting up an ambitious guarantee of $2 million.

After more than two weeks of action, that figure was successfully smashed, with the operator awarding over $2.3 million in total prize money. The latest MISCOOP results are a continuation of PokerStars‘ excellent run so far in the Wolverine State.

Back in March, the first-ever Michigan Championship of Online Poker (MICOOP) also exceeded expectations, with almost all of the tournaments surpassing their guarantees.

The inaugural MISCOOP took place from May 8 – 24, featuring a total of 120 tournaments. Just 34 of that missed their guarantees, with the remaining 87 exceeding their guaranteed prize pools. Among them was Event 31-L, which featured a buy-in of $10 and a guarantee of $1000. The event ended up awarding $1,947 in total prize money.

Event 17-H also had a massive turnout and managed to add over 50% into the prize pool. Other events, such as 26-H and 27-H both exceeded their respective guarantees by almost 50%.

The $300 buy-in Main Event in particular, which came with a guarantee of $200,000, managed to exceed that figure by over 20% after handing out $243,880 in total prize money.

All in all, the festival attracted a total of 40,373 entries to generate $2,320,872 in total prize pool, which means the series was able to surpass its initial guarantee by 17%. As a result, MISCOOP has created a new record for the biggest-ever tournament series in Michigan.

PokerStars Remains Top Dog in MI

PokerStars was the first online poker operator to launch in the Wolverine State. It went live at the end of January and enjoyed early success. MICOOP, MI’s first-ever online tournament series, attracted an unprecedented turnout that the operator eventually upped the guarantee from $1 million to $1.4 million while the festival was already in progress.

But even so, MICOOP still managed to go past its updated guarantee, and ultimately distributed $2.2 million across 60 tournaments.

Towards the end of March, the entrance of BetMGM effectively put an end to PokerStars’ online poker monopoly in Michigan, but the operator has continued to maintain its dominance. If the recent MISCOOP results are any indication, PokerStars could still very well rule the MI market, despite facing more competition with the upcoming launch of WSOP.com.
