Summary

  • Sheng Ye outclassed a 1,224-entry field in the Main Event to win the largest score of his career
  • WPT Prime travels to Cambodia for its next stop, with the series kicking off on March 9
  • You may win a package to future WPT Prime events via WPT Global

The popular World Poker Tour (WPT) Prime Gold Coast returned for another edition from February 23 – March 6.

The series, hosted by the Star Gold Coast Casino, is finally done and dusted, and among the biggest winners to emerge from the festival was Australia‘s own Sheng Ye who took down the WPT Prime Gold Coast Main Event.

Sheng Ye Grabs $253,843 At Main Event

The $2,000 buy-in WPT Prime Gold Coast Main Event generated $2,203,200 (US$1,493,899) in total prize pool after pulling in a 1,224-entry field which was ultimately topped by Ye. The Sydney resident walked away with US$253,843 in first-place prize, his largest score to date.

Apart from that, Ye also earned automatic entry into the season-ending WPT World Championship at Wynn Las Vegas as part of a $16,500 poker package.

A total of 16 players returned on the final day for a shot at the title, but only 9 reached the final table. Noman Mizra and Andreas Vasiliou were the first players to leave the table, finishing 9th and 8th for US$24,268 and US$30,847 respectively.

Next to go was Slav Rypinski (7th, $39,628), followed by Gary Lin (6th, $51,439). The only woman to make the final table, Anita Savage, ended her bid in 5th place for $67,466, while Josh Forster busted in 4th for $89,396. Mostafa Haidary’s 3rd-place exit for $119,662 paved the way for the heads-up battle between Ye and Ben Richardson.

A queen-deuce turned top pair from Ye shattered Richardson’s hopes of winning the title as the latter settled for second place with $161,788 in winnings.

WPT Prime Cambodia

With the WPT Prime Gold Coast now over, all eyes will be on the WPT Prime Cambodia which gets underway today, March 9 at the Nagaworld Integrated Resort, Phnom Penh. WPT Prime Cambodia runs until March 21.

The series features a great selection of variants, such as Short Deck, Pot-Limit Omaha and Mystery Bounty. The schedule is designed for players of all levels, with buy-ins ranging from $110 to $10,000. The festival culminates in the WPT Prime Cambodia Main Event, which costs $1,100 to enter and features $500,000 in guaranteed prize money.
